The San Juan Basin has a rich history in the oil and gas industry, the first commercial gas well was developed outside of Aztec, NM. Today there are over 20,000 producing wells extracting mostly natural gas. Approximately 10,000 more wells are slated to be drilled in the next two decades. The newest U.S. Geological Survey projections for the San Juan Basin at more that 50 Tcf (trillion cubic feet) of unconventional natural gas reserves, 148 million barrels of natural gas liquids, and 19 million barrels of oil. This makes the San Juan Basin a major player in the oil and natural gas industry for decades to come.
