Turbine Control System

The TCS2000, specifically developed for the control of gas turbine engines and associated driven equipment, combines dedicated engine controller functions with a programmable logic controller integrated with a common operator interface and HMI display system. It is intended for control room installations and is ideal for retrofit applications.

The dedicated engine controller is proprietary VME-based hardware that includes special signal conditioning for turbine interfaces and PROM-based algorithms for fuel management. The programmable logic controller offers ample analog and discrete I/O for user-definable sequencing, peripheral equipment monitoring and ancillary systems control. It is well-suited for large-scale system integration. The operator interface consists of a turbine control panel (TCP), a PC-based industrial computer, keyboard and a 19” rack-mount CRT display. The engine controller is equipped with a processor independent back-up system and hard-wired relays providing shutdown protection from microprocessor failure.

Hardware architecture

The engine controller is an alternative version of the standard PECC TCSD control system and provides engine management functions including control of fuel-metering valves, geometry control and sequencing plus the monitoring of fuel-related devices.

Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)

The PLC, an Allen-Bradley PLC-5 series processor, is the heart of the control system and performs the following functions:

  1. Sequencing and monitoring of the gas turbine, driven equipment and auxiliaries
  2. Starting, loading & shutdown turbine control
  3. Turbine protection during normal operation
  4. Response to commands from operator intervention
  5. Communication with the display system to provide status and data monitoring
